Mary Todd Lincoln

It has been said that Katz held the audience
in the palm of her hand. You would think Mary
Todd Lincoln, herself, was there...

Mary Todd Lincoln is considered one of the
most controversial First Ladies in American
history. She was an ambitious woman; un-
fortunately, this driving force, eventually
led her to depression and poverty.

As a young woman she was courted by
Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas.
Lincoln married Mary Todd and brought
her to the Whitehouse. It was at the
Whitehouse that she fought public
hostility and became a propelling force
for Lincoln during his presidency. Mary
Todd is remembered as both a survivor
of tragedy and a woman of valor in
American history.

Katz's performance details her first contact
with slavery, the slave market in the South
and her encounters with such leaders as
Henry Clay. Moreover, Katz chronicles many
other fascinating and historically relevant
details of Mary Todd's life.
